I have come to believe that our lives are a series of stories. Some seem to go on forever. Others are over before you have a chance to crack the cover. Still others leave you asking yourself, "What was the point?"
I used to think that acts of kindness could be split into two categories. One is the category of something major, something life changing by someone else's definition. The second category is something seemingly small and insignificant. They are the sorts of things you just do without thinking about them. You do them "just because." And once you've done these things, you tend to forget about them. You forget, push them out of your head, and you go on with life as you know it. And you don't realize what the story of your words, your actions, your overall presence, does to those who take the time to read. And now?
I believe any act of kindness, if it dries a tear, lifts a burden, brings a smile, cheers the heart, refreshes the soul, and shows the love of God, is neither insignificant nor is it a waste. These are the stories that, when the last page is read and the book closed, those who read will come away saying, "Wow! That changed my life!"
